I love my kids. I get to spend a lot of time with them as well, since they homeschool and I work from home mostly, but the one thing I don’t get to do a lot of is spend one-on-one time with them. We are usually always together, the whole lot of us, and so getting that special bonding time is difficult. I spend the most of my one-on-one time with my eldest because she assists me on jobs, and so driving to and from and most of the prep work we do together. This has proved to be a little sore spot for my youngest daughter, who has developed a slight jealousy over this fact. In preparation for a shoot I have coming up I decided to shake things up a bit and take my youngest daughter with me, and I’m so happy I did. We spent the better part of the afternoon scouting out a beach, exploring every nook and cranny and bouncing ideas off one another for the upcoming shoot. I’m always astounded by my children, especially when I photograph them. Through the lens I see so many layers, and watching them blossom with their own ideas is such a tremendous joy. That afternoon was the light of my week; just me, my daughter, the waves and a camera.
