As subjective as art may be, the more crucial truth is that it’s universal. It is through art that we communicate our stories. One of the ways I communicate my stories is through photography. When I take my camera out and use it to capture the lifeblood of the ones I love, it’s a way for me to latch onto the story we are telling and hold it tight. I also use my camera to explore the stories of others, but when I can use my camera to fuse my story with the stories of someone else; that’s when things start to get interesting. I loved this particular shoot because it was a way for me to take the stories that another artist has already told and use them as a segue into telling my own. Wandering the streets of downtown Sarasota with these four girls, the ‘cool’ dripping from their pores, was an experience I’ll cherish for a long time to come. The end result is a story that feels just as much theirs as it is mine as it is the many artists who lent their talents to Sarasota’s historic district.
