When I was first approached a few months ago about taking this young man’s pictures, his mother and I brainstormed ideas for a shoot based on his hobbies. We came up with a variety of things, from video games to golf, but each one met with little interest from her son, who didn’t seem all that optimistic about having his picture taken to begin with. Despite that, we forged ahead with planning his shoot, but each time a date was picked the Florida summer weather forced us to reschedule. As much as I never like having to bump a shoot, I’m glad we did because the extra time gave her son a chance to come up with his own ideas for a shoot that turned out to be not only a lot of fun, but also to produce some really cool shots. It was nice to have him bring his own ideas to the table and to be open to trying other ideas because they swirled within the realm of his own. He may look angry in these pictures, but he was genuinely enjoying himself and as a photographer that is what makes the job all the more fun.
