This past weekend I had the privilege of meeting a sweet little family from Michigan who were soaking in the Florida sun over the Holidays. Upon meeting them on the sandy shore it was instantly obvious we were going to have a fun day; and that we did. One thing to know about me is that my approach to photography and to family portraits is less about the smiles and poses and more about capturing the essence of a family, and so the first thing I said to my clients was that we were going to take a few minutes to get those ‘smile and pose’ portraits out of the way and then we were just going to play. What that produced was something magical. Through my lens I saw a mother and father who adored their son, and a son who felt the same. As they played in the sand, splashed in the ocean, explored their surroundings (including a blue crab who showed up to say, “Hello”) and just watched the waves roll in, I felt honored to share this day with them and to help them share the story of their family!
